Until such time as Carlos Delgado is re-signed, Daniel Murphy is the de facto Mets starting first baseman.
And if Delgado is signed to a small base contract with a bunch of incentives, it's still not clear that the Mets wouldn't cut him in the spring if they didn't like the way he was moving after all his rehab. Which would again hand the job back to Murphy.
